Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), H.E. Seyed Sattar Hashemi, paid an official visit to Baghdad at the invitation of his Iraqi counterpart to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of telecommunications, digital transformation, and ICT infrastructure.
During the visit, Minister Hashemi held high-level meetings with Iraqi officials, including the Minister of Communications, to discuss expanding cooperation in telecommunications infrastructure, cybersecurity, digital government services, and emerging technologies. The two sides also explored opportunities for deeper technical collaboration and knowledge exchange to support the digital development agendas of both countries.
A key focus of the discussions was the enhancement of communication services for millions of pilgrims traveling between Iran and Iraq during the upcoming Arbaeen pilgrimage. The ministers emphasized the importance of close coordination between telecommunications operators and relevant authorities to ensure reliable, high-quality, and uninterrupted connectivity throughout the pilgrimage period.
Minister Hashemi also met with senior Iraqi officials to explore broader cooperation in science, technology, innovation, and digital capacity building, reaffirming Iran’s readiness to share expertise and expand strategic partnerships in advanced ICT sectors.
The visit reflects the shared commitment of Iran and Iraq to strengthening regional cooperation, enhancing cross-border digital connectivity, and fostering sustainable technological partnerships that contribute to economic growth and improved digital services for both nations.
